Tips for cheap charging in Minneapolis

Downtown Minneapolis parking ramps often have Level 2 chargers, and the skyway system means you can park, plug in and walk to work or a game without going outside. Just remember that ramp parking is paid, so the charge is only free if you were going to park there anyway.

Minneapolis winters regularly drop well below zero. Cold batteries accept power slowly, so a fast-charging stop can take much longer in January than in July. Precondition your battery if your car allows it, and avoid per-minute pricing when it is very cold.

If you live near the University of Minnesota or in an apartment in Uptown or Northeast without a charger, look for free Level 2 stations near work, the grocery store or the gym. Regular short sessions can cover most city driving.

Game days and concerts at U.S. Bank Stadium and Target Field fill nearby ramps quickly. Charge earlier in the day or a few blocks away.
