About Thrifty Charging

Thrifty Charging helps US EV drivers find free and lower-cost public charging using official Department of Energy station data, compare charging costs and request home charger installation quotes.

Charging prices for electric cars are all over the place. The same full charge can cost nothing at a free station or quite a lot at a fast charger down the street. Thrifty Charging exists to make that difference easy to see.

Where our data comes from

Station locations, ports, connectors and published pricing come from the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center. We refresh it regularly. We mark a station free only when its published pricing says so, and we show "Price not listed" when no price is published. We never invent prices.

How we make money

The site is free to use. We show ads, and we may earn a referral fee when you request home charger installation quotes through our form. Neither affects how stations are sorted: free first, then cheapest published price.
