Tips for cheap charging in Kahului
Kahului is home to Maui's main airport and most of the island's big stores, so many visitors start and end their trip here. If you rent an EV, charge in Kahului before heading to more remote parts of the island.
The Road to Hana has no reliable public charging, along with tight curves and one-lane bridges. Start with a full battery and plan for the full round trip, since there is nowhere dependable to charge along the way.
Driving up Haleakala uses a lot of energy on the climb, though you will regain a good amount coming down. Make sure you have enough charge to reach the summit comfortably.
Shopping centers along Kaahumanu Avenue are good places to look for Level 2 charging while you run errands or stock up for a vacation rental. Hawaii electricity rates are higher than the mainland's, so free Level 2 is especially valuable here.
